* We are a Hong Kong company and our global online auctions take place on a server in Hong Kong where there is no indirect tax. As a result F.A.B. does not charge VAT, GST or Sales Tax on its service charges in any jurisdictions, except for China & India unless otherwise stated. We are also exempt of copyright fees and artist’s resale royalty. ** The proceeds of sale due to sellers is safely held in trust by a third party institutional escrow service provider.

5% SELLER’S COMMISSION, 5% BUYER’S PREMIUM /

At F.A.B. the Seller is King. You are our primary client. We are totally focused on how we can return the most amount of money net to you after the auction.

F.A.B. has applied digital technology to the old traditional auction business model and vastly reduced the spiraling costs of bricks and mortar, labour and printing. We are delighted to pass on these savings to you, our valued customer.

The F.A.B. Seller’s commission is a fraction of the fees charged by traditional auction houses.

The Seller’s Commission is a percentage charged on the hammer price (winning bid at the auction) of the lot and paid for by the seller.

The Seller’s Commission is only charged if the lot sells. It is deducted from the proceeds of sale of the Lot/s.

The Buyer’s Premium is a percentage charged on the hammer price (winning bid at the auction) of the lot and paid for by the buyer. F.A.B charges 5% Buyer’s Premium. This is 80% less than the Buyer’s Premium charged by most traditional auction houses. This means that Lots at a F.A.B. auction may achieve a far greater result for the seller as the buyer can pay a much higher price and still be in front.

Funds Held in Escrow

After the auction, the proceeds from the sale are deposited by the buyers into an escrow account (similar to a trust account) operated by a third party institutional escrow service provider.

Within the settlement period, usually around 30 days (subject to settlement by the buyer), F.A.B. will instruct the escrow Bank to transfer the net funds (after agreed charges) directly into the Seller’s bank account.

Very few traditional auction houses operate a trust account or an escrow account. We believe strongly in this escrow concept as it provides both sellers and buyers with a higher level of financial protection & security.

Six Year Warranty

F.A.B. guarantees its basic catalogue descriptions on behalf of the Seller. These warranties are underwritten by our insurers, Lloyds of London. Our experienced specialists are responsible for cataloguing, research and due diligence (where necessary).

Chandelier Bidding

F.A.B. rejects unethical auction practices such as “chandelier bidding”. This common and age old practice is where the auctioneer indicates bids that are false to boost the bidding from genuine bidders. In the opinion of F.A.B. this practice is misleading and deceptive. All bids at a F.A.B. auction are genuine bids from real buyers.

Results

We publish our sale results during the auction in real time. We do not provide our sale results to any third party including auction results aggregators

Auction Location

We are a Hong Kong company and the fall of the hammer occurs on our server in Hong Kong. The online auction takes place in Hong Kong regardless of where the goods are located.

Full Disclosure

If F.A.B. has an interest in a lot, we will declare that interest in the LOT DETAIL page. F.A.B. will never provide a bidder with any special terms that are not available to every other bidder. The above is stated in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Business.

SINGLE OWNER’S WHOLE COLLECTION /

Managing the sale of a single lot is one thing, handling the sale of a whole collection is an entirely different challenge. It requires a great deal of experience, trust and skill. F.A.B. executives and senior specialists have participated in the auction sale of single owner collections, around the world over many years.

The logistics involved in packing and shipping a collection to a traditional auction room can be expensive and stressful. F.A.B. auctions are conducted online in a virtual auction room so you may not have to move your collection to sell it on the global market. In certain circumstances it may remain with you and under your control until the auction sale process is completed (subject to F.A.B. approval).

If you would like to discuss the auction of your private collection located anywhere in the world, please contact our CEO Tim Goodman in strict confidence.

We want our customers to receive the full benefits of our industry experience and what we have created.

We want the F.A.B. legacy to be about how we helped to change the way people do business in the fine art market.
